Oleon, a Belgian company, announced on June 28 that it had put into operation a biogas propylene glycol plant with an annual capacity of 20,000 tons in Ertvelde. This project, with an investment of 8.2 million euros (about 10.2 million U.S. dollars), uses glycerol as a raw material to produce propylene glycol, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70% compared with the propylene-based route.
The project uses BASF-developed technology and has fewer production steps compared to the traditional hydrolysis process. BASF also supplies it with catalysts used in production.

The torque generated during rotation is determined by the oil viscosity, the pressure area of the blade and the clearance between the blade and the body.
