According to a Reuters report, on May 25, 2010, the Mexican government stated that due to unfair competition in the Mexican domestic market for seamless steel tubes imported from China, it decided to impose a temporary anti-dumping tax on seamless steel pipes originating in China.
According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Mexico, seamless steel pipes (mainly used for oil and gas pipelines) imported from China entered Mexico at below-market prices and caused damage to domestic industries. Mexico will impose temporary anti-dumping duties on steel pipes with costs below $1,561/t, which is the difference between the export price and the reference price. The temporary anti-dumping measures will be formally implemented on May 26, 2010, but the tax rate will not exceed 36%.
