EE will use micro-network technology to cover 4G networks in rural areas

The UK’s largest wireless operator, EE, will use micro-network technology to connect 1,500 rural communities in the UK by the end of 2017 and cover 4G networks. This will make it easier and more economical for remote areas to enjoy the Internet. The micro-network technology can be connected wirelessly to the EE's macro network through three or four small antennas with a radius of up to 150 half-square miles. These antennas can be installed in a few hours without planning permission and unlike large masts. Because micro-networks do not require a fixed broadband connection, some rural communities may use high-speed broadband connections for the first time.
The micro network has been deployed in 129 homes and businesses in Cambria. Cambria is also an area where EE deployed 4G networks in 2013. The local official said: “The arrival of the 4G network will change the lives of 347 residents because their location in a deep valley cannot reach the coverage of mobile phones. The mobile service here is non-existent or intermittent. And broadband is very slow and very unreliable. In such rural communities, we need fast broadband connections."
