Consolidate the traditional market
It has become a world-class high-horsepower engine manufacturing and supply base, which is the strategic positioning of Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd.
As a Sino-U.S. joint venture established in the 1990s, Chongqing Cummins is the starting point for Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. in China, and is currently Cummins' largest heavy-duty and high-horsepower engine manufacturing plant in China.
"By grasping the high-end production technology of the engine and improving the quality and sales service system, Chongqing Cummins will have an engine sales of 14.3 million units this year and a sales revenue of 2.2 billion yuan," said Xin Deli, general manager of Chongqing Cummins.
Filling the blank of domestic electronically controlled engines
Just like the heart of a person is to provide blood circulation to the body. In general, the machine must maintain its normal operation. It is also inseparable from the heart of the engine.
In the past, diesel engines were widely used in fields such as mines, oil and gas fields, and construction machinery. However, the environmental protection situation has become increasingly urgent, forcing the engine to upgrade its upper gear — electronically controlled engines with lower noise, less emissions, and smoother operation, which have increasingly become the “hot spots†in the engine market.
Seeing this development momentum, from 2007, Chongqing Cummins took the lead in the development of more dynamic, economical and environmentally friendly electronically controlled engine products.
This year, Chongqing Cummins introduced an electronically controlled engine with a displacement of 19 liters and a displacement of 38 liters from its US headquarters.
"The two engines introduced at the time have already reached the international advanced level, but we still decided to improve the follow-up R&D and localized production to fill the domestic gap," said Xia Hongbin, general manager of Chongqing Cummins China.
After two years of follow-up research and development, on September 15 last year, China's first electronically controlled high-horsepower engine, the 19-liter electronically controlled engine, was formally rolled out in Chongqing Cummins and delivered to Shantui Construction Machinery Company for use on a 520-horsepower bulldozer.
At this point, Chongqing Cummins filled more than 15 liters of localization of electronically controlled construction machinery engine blank, completed the engine from mechanical to electronic control of the leap, the first step into the domestic high horsepower electronically controlled engine technology.
It is necessary to consolidate the traditional market and expand the emerging markets
Consolidate the traditional market, upgrade weak markets, and expand emerging markets. This is the development of Chongqing Cummins this year.
The marine engine market is one of the traditional markets that Chongqing Cummins has strongly consolidated.
In the middle of last year, the ocean-going fishing boats produced by the shipbuilding enterprises of our city gradually deployed the high-quality, inexpensive "Chongqing-made" fishing boat engines, and changed the history of the "imported goods" that were expensive and expensive to ship. Enterprises can save more shipbuilding costs.
If we say that consolidating the traditional market is a "safe haven" measure by Chongqing Cummins under the financial crisis, then increasing the market share of weak markets such as the automotive market is the direction of action in the "post-crisis era."
“In recent years, the rapid development of China’s auto industry has not only led to an increase in annual production year by year, but also has become increasingly significant in terms of automotive family trends. For the automotive market, Chongqing Cummins is very interested.†Xin Deli said.
However, Xin Deli acknowledged that since family cars have higher emission requirements for engines, Chongqing Cummins, which had previously been the engine of heavy-duty vehicles and mine construction machinery, is not easy to enter this field.
Chongqing Cummins has had new considerations.
"Current climate change and oil price fluctuations have caused the world to seek to replace diesel with other fuels." Xin Deli said that at present, Chongqing Cummins has developed new energy engines that use gas, coalbed methane and biogas as fuel. Once successfully developed, this may allow Chongqing Cummins to gain more say in the automotive engine market and even emerging markets.
