The enterprises have attached great importance to and strengthened the management of intellectual property rights, and the patent development has made considerable progress.
According to statistics, in 2009, the central enterprises applied for 39,283 patents, including 1,993 patents for inventions; and 20,431 patents were authorized, including 4,891 patents for inventions, which were nearly three times that of 2006. As of the end of 2009, the central SOEs had a cumulative total of 76,183 effective patents, which was 2 times that of 2006, of which 21,226 were effective invention patents, accounting for 27.9% of the total.
From the standpoint of individual enterprises, over 12 patent applications were filed by 12 companies such as the State Grid Corporation of Communications, the Telecommunication Research Institute, the Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, and the Datang Telecom Group. The annual patents of companies such as China Construction, China Mobile, Sinochem Group, Guoji Group, and Wuhan Iron and Steel Company etc. The growth rate of applications exceeds 50%.
With the rapid growth of patent application for central enterprises, the quality of patent applications has also increased significantly. Baosteel's invention patent applications in the past three years exceeded the sum of the previous two decades. Shanghai Bell only applies for patents for inventions with commercial value, of which more than one-third are European, American and Japanese tripartite patents. The cumulative amount of patents granted by China Petrochemical's inventions accounted for 72% of the total authorized amount. Its independent patented technology products are exported to more than 40 countries and regions such as the United States, Europe, and Asia.
