Volkswagen's global sales increase by 8% in April

According to data released by the Volkswagen Group a few days ago, in April 2014, Volkswagen Group had delivered a total of 848,500 vehicles globally, compared to 784,500 units in April 2013, an increase of 8.2% year-on-year. The sales volume here does not include the two major commercial vehicle subsidiaries Mann and Scania.

In the first quarter, Volkswagen’s accumulated sales increased by 5.8% from 2.266 million units to 2.398 million vehicles. As a result, cumulative sales from January to April increased by 6.4% from 3.06 million vehicles to 3.247 million vehicles. This figure hit a record high over the same period.

Last month, Volkswagen delivered sales of 309,100 vehicles in the largest single market in China, while in April last year, it sold 247,700 vehicles in China, an increase of 24.9% year-on-year. In the first four months, VW's accumulated sales in China reached 1,189,800 units, which was a year-on-year increase of 17.0% compared to 1,016,900 units in the same period of last year. This enabled the Volkswagen Group to increase its sales in the Asia Pacific region from 1.14 million vehicles in the first four months to a year-on-year increase of 15.7% to 1.31 million.

VW Group sales in Europe in the first 4 months increased by 8.0% year-on-year to 1.30 million from 1.21 million; of which 635,900 in Western Europe outside Germany increased by 8.7% to 691,200; in Germany from 370,200 increased by 6.0% to 392,300 Vehicle. In the Central and Eastern Europe region, VW Group's sales in the first four months increased by 9.5% year-on-year from 199,100 units to 218,000 units, while in Russia, from 94,900 units, it dropped 4.3% year-on-year to 90,800 units.

The Group’s sales in North America in the first four months fell by 2.9 percent year-on-year to 271,800 units from 279,900 vehicles, of which 193,900 units in the United States slid 4.9% year-on-year to 184,300 units. In South America, Volkswagen’s accumulated sales from January to April totaled 29,1% from the same period of last year, which was 21.1%, to 230,300; of which, in Brazil during the same period, it decreased by 17.4% from 213,500 units to 176,400.

1. Volkswagen Passenger Car Brand In April 2014, Volkswagen’s passenger vehicle brand delivered a total of 513,400 vehicles to consumers globally. In April 2013, the global delivery volume was 480,900 units, a year-on-year increase of 6.8%. This is the highest single-month increase since 2014, exceeding the 6.5% in January, higher than 1.5% in February and 4.8% in March.

From January to April, the cumulative sales volume of Volkswagen's passenger vehicle brands worldwide was 1,994,300 units. In the same period of last year, the total global sales volume was 1,906,600 units, which was a year-on-year increase of 4.6%. This is also the first time that the Volkswagen brand has accumulated sales of nearly 2 million vehicles in the first four months.

2. Audi brand In April 2014, Audi delivered 149,050 vehicles globally, compared with 133,495 units in April 2013, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year. In the month, Audi achieved year-on-year growth in major markets such as China, Europe and the United States. Among the major luxury car brands, Audi's monthly sales are still second only to BMW.

From January to April of this year, Audi's total global delivery volume reached 561,900 units, which was 502,989 vehicles in the same period of 2013, a year-on-year increase of 11.7%.

3. The Porsche brand Porsche brand delivered a total of 16,297 vehicles globally in April. In April 2013, the brand delivered worldwide sales of 15,232 units, an increase of 7.0% year-on-year. From January to April of this year, Porsche's global cumulative delivery volume reached 54,960 units, compared with 52,241 units in the same period of last year, which is a year-on-year increase of 5.2%.

4. The Skoda Brand Skoda brand delivered a total of 89,600 vehicles globally in April this year, up 15.5% year-on-year; cumulative sales from January to April increased by 13.0% from 298,000 units to 336,800 units.

5. The sales of the SEAT brand SEAT brand in the global market in the first 4 months of this year increased by 8.8% year-on-year from 117,100 units to 127,400 units. In Central and Eastern Europe, 4,400 vehicles surged 82.2% year-on-year to 8,000 vehicles; in Germany, 23,700 vehicles increased by 11.7% year-on-year to 26,500 vehicles.

6. Volkswagen commercial vehicle brand Volkswagen commercial vehicle brand sales in the world in the first 4 months of this year fell by 2.4% year-on-year from 170,100 units to 166,000 units. In Europe, 97,800 vehicles increased by 7.2% year-on-year to 104,900; in Asia Pacific, 6,200 vehicles increased by 12.3% year-on-year to 7,000 vehicles.
