Tsunami disaster affects Toyota Motor sales in China fell 23.5% in April

According to JapanToday's JapanToday report, Toyota Motor Corp. (toyota MotorCorp.) sales of new cars in China in April 2011 were 48,700 units, down 23.5% from the same period last year. Toyota Motor (China) Co., Ltd. stated that due to the stagnation of auto parts supply caused by the 3.11 earthquake and tsunami disaster, the company’s auto assembly is facing difficulties.

In this regard, Toyota said that the company is implementing a plan to purchase alternative parts and components in order to restore production capacity to the level before the earthquake as soon as possible.

In late April 2011, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that before June 3, the operating rate of all Toyota's vehicle factories in China will be reduced to 50% of the usual, and in extreme cases it is more likely to be reduced to 30%.

It is reported that the company sold 176,000 units in the United States in April, a decrease of 9.5% month-on-month and a slight increase of 1.4% year-on-year.

In addition, according to other Japanese media reports, it is expected that the company's global car production in 2011 will reduce the production of 800,000 vehicles in total, which may lead to its annual output of less than 7 million vehicles, which is lower than the company’s expectations. Previously, the company expects that its global car production in 2011 will be 7.7 million vehicles.
