Recently, Siemens Automation and Drives Division has introduced a new control technology to the market – using Simatic embedded automation technology. This fully assembled and maintenance-free device, the Simatic Mini Box 420-T, combines PC-based features with the superior performance of a programmable controller (PLC). The PLC does not require fan or hard disk operation, and the data is stored on a flash memory card that is easily exchanged. The new device also includes a Windows XP embedded system and a typical PC interface.
The Simatic Mini Box 420-T is suitable for connecting PLC and motion control work. This device includes PLC WinAC RTX software with dynamic motion control technology and a synchronous Profibus DP interface. When technical work is to be performed, PLCopen-compatible motion control blocks are used to control bending synchronization procedures such as print mark correction, path-dependent or time-dependent cam control and position control hydraulic axes. The S7 Technology V3.0 optional package supports configuration and parameter determination of up to 64 technology components and supports up to 32 axes, 32 cam plates, 32 cams, 16 probes or 16 external sensors.
