Russia announces that it will finalize the energy dispute over China’s Annana line

Russian Ambassador to Japan Los Yukov stated at the Tokyo Foreign Correspondents Club on December 6th that it is in Russia’s interests to build an oil pipeline connecting the Russian Far East and the west coast of Japan. According to reports, Losyukov said that the Anna Line can provide energy for the development of Russia’s Far East region. All parties concerned, including Japan, South Korea and China, may participate in the project. Nakhodka, the terminus of the Anna Line, is only 800 kilometers from the west coast of Japan. Losyukov disclosed that a strong signal indicates that Moscow will soon announce the decision to build a trans-Siberian pipeline. He added that the decision was not a question of who was chosen in Japan and China, but what was most in line with Russia’s interests. In the past few years, China has been actively lobbying Russia to establish an oil pipeline connecting the Angarsk and Daqing, China (Ananda Line). Compared with the Annana Line, the Anta Line is shorter and the construction cost is cheaper, but Japan is committed to providing support for the construction of the Anna Line and the development of the Eastern Siberia region. Both China and Japan now rely heavily on imported crude oil.
