Recently, the US ballast water management system supplier Ecochlor became the fifth company in the industry to apply for type approval from the US Coast Guard. It is reported that the company's chlorine dioxide injection system is also the first such system to apply for the approval.
Prior to this, the three companies' ballast water systems were approved by the US Coast Guard, namely Optimarin and Alfa Laval's UV-based systems, and Ocean Saver's electrolyzers. The fourth company, Sunrui Environmental Engineering, has also submitted an application for its point system to the US Coast Guard.
Tom Perlich, president and founder of Ecochlor, said, “We started the ballast water system for the first time 12 years ago. Now applying for the US approval is just a matter of reducing the change in chemical dosage. The completely independent test has clearly shown that the Ecochlor system can even meet Beyond the US Coast Guard's emissions standards."
