It is reported that the Wärtsilä Sealing and Bearing Division will introduce a new condition monitoring system designed to reduce the full life cycle costs associated with ship shafting. 
The system, called Sea-Master, monitors bearings and seals and collects tailshaft data in real time to provide insight into the health and safety of the shafting. The system can be used on all types of ships and is suitable for retrofitting or newbuildings.
Matthew Bignell, sales promotion manager for Wärtsilä Sealing and Bearings, said, “The Wärtsilä Sea-Master system is a model for digital maintenance that brings easy maintenance to the propulsion technology. Customers will be able to understand the operational status of the ship's shafting and know the equipment. Loss situation, better planning and accurate maintenance, reducing ship idle time."
