Last year, China's commercial vehicle import and export more than a new high


In 2007, the total import and export volume of China's auto products reached US$ 63.553 billion, an increase of 37.90% year-on-year. The total import and export volume of commercial vehicles was 6.395 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 126.29%. The growth rate was significantly higher than that of passenger cars. Last year, China’s vehicle exports still accounted for exports of commercial vehicles, which accounted for 54.4% of China’s total vehicle exports. The surplus of import and export trade of commercial vehicles reached a record high of US$4.043 billion.

Imports rose

In 2007, the production and sales of commercial vehicles in China reached 2,501,300 and 2,494,400 respectively, an increase of 22.21% and 22.25% over the same period of last year. The growth of the overall market for commercial vehicles is a factor driving the rapid growth of commercial vehicle imports.

In terms of quantity, imports of commercial vehicles in 2007 were 12034, an increase of 31.53% year-on-year. From the perspective of major imported varieties, the number of passenger cars imported was 1,558, a year-on-year decrease of 15.33%; of which, 1,368 were non-diesel passenger cars with more than 10 seats and less than 20 seats, which was the absolute main force for imports. 9147 heavy trucks imported, a year-on-year increase of 43.37%; the import of diesel trucks was a ladder-type, large-tonnage-to-large-tonnage trend, with a total of 6389 imported vehicles with a total of 20 tons. Last year, 894 vehicles were imported into the chassis, an increase of 194.08% year-on-year, of which 672 were imported from the chassis of the trucks, which accounted for an absolute advantage.

In 2008, imports of more than 10 and less than 20 non-diesel passenger cars are expected to increase rapidly. The appreciation of the renminbi has enabled importers to use vehicles with more price advantages and has become a booster for foreign heavy vehicles to enter the Chinese market. Imported trucks still have a fixed high-end customer base in the domestic market, which drives the overall growth of commercial vehicle imports. Against this background, the number of imported cars is expected to further increase in 2008. The import of commercial vehicles is expected to reach 16,000 vehicles.

Export advantage is obvious

Data show that in 2007 China's commercial vehicle exports also increased significantly, mainly due to the rapid economic development of neighboring countries, the expansion of infrastructure construction, and the large demand for automobiles; passenger facilities in neighboring countries are facing upgrading; China's export vehicle has a comparative advantage in cost-effectiveness.

In terms of amount, the export value of commercial vehicles was 5.219 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 137.47% year-on-year. In 2007, passenger cars became a bright spot for the export of commercial vehicles, with exports of 41,896, a year-on-year growth of more than three times. The 10-20 gasoline vehicles have become the mainstay of passenger car exports. This is a concentrated expression of the shift of light passenger companies from one-time earnings that focus on exporting to gradually perfecting the overseas sales service network in recent years.

After years of development, a relatively sound upstream and downstream industrial chain for the production of commercial vehicles has been formed; the technology is mature, with independent intellectual property rights and independent brands; domestic commercial vehicles are more suitable for the needs of developing countries. As the world’s largest producer of commercial vehicles, China’s economies of scale are incomparable to foreign companies. According to the comparison of export value, heavy-duty trucks are still in the first place and have strong advantages. Diesel vehicles below 5 tons have become the first main models for exports. The structure of passenger car export vehicles is mature and reasonable, and passenger car export markets are relatively competitive, and exports maintain strong growth momentum.

Due to the booming domestic commercial vehicle market in 2007, some leading companies could not fully explore the export market. There will be more opportunities for the export market in 2008. The export volume of commercial vehicles in China this year is expected to reach 600,000-65 million vehicles.
