The special chemicals group LANXESS has successfully completed the acquisition of the DSM elastomer business. This acquisition has been approved by the antitrust agency. The transaction took effect on May 1, 2011.
LANXESS invested 310 million euros in the acquisition of the elastomer business of the Royal Dutch DSM Group. The EPDM produced by DSM's elastomer division was awarded the Keltan brand name. Dr. Axel C. Heitmann, CEO of LANXESS, stated: "The successful acquisition of DSM's elastomer business will be another milestone on LANXESS' development. The DSM Elastomer, headquartered in the Sittard-Geleen in the Netherlands, employs approximately 420 people worldwide and its annual production capacity at the EPDM plant in Stockholm is 160,000 metric tons. Another EPDM plant in Triunfo, Brazil, produces about 40,000 metric tons per year. LANXESS plans to relocate the merged EPDM business headquarters from Marl in the Netherlands to Stadt Herron in the Netherlands.
The Lanxess Industrial Rubber Products business unit, managed by Guenther Weymans, will sell its EPDM rubber products under the Buna EP and Keltan brands. LANXESS currently has a EPDM rubber production base in Marl, Germany and Orange, USA.
