Against the strength of the yen, Infiniti intends to further shift production capacity

Infiniti had previously decided to produce its JX crossover in the United States. Recently, Andy Palmer, executive vice president of Infiniti, said that in response to the strengthening of the yen, the company expects to transfer more production capacity overseas.

Andy Palmer said that a compact model based on the Infiniti Etherea concept car will be put into operation overseas, but it did not disclose in which country to put into production.

Nissan Motor Co. is working hard to open up new markets for Infiniti. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said he expects Infiniti to occupy 10% of the global luxury car market in the next six years.

Currently, Infiniti sells only 150,000 vehicles a year and has 36 sales markets worldwide. In the next few years, it will expand the number of global markets to 71, and the global sales target for 2017 will be 500,000 vehicles.

At present, all Infiniti products are produced at the Tochigi factory in Japan. Infiniti stated that it will shift its production capacity overseas, but it will not be completely separated from Japan because its brand image has a very close relationship with Japan.
